  1. Thanks, Piggy
I like the variations. It’s funny: I never thought of combining “he always looked away…” e.t.c with recklessness. Wise master Yoda is. I just noticed how similar his grammar is to latin…

  2. My quote today about growth pertains to this very site. Since I started PTR, the average view rate averaged 25 views per day over the past eleven days. However, today alone (at this time) we have already reached 105 hits. That’s a win, if I may say so myself. Keep it up, guys.

  3. See here.

  4. Ah, The Princess Bride, source of many a good quote. (Today’s: “We are men of action. Lies do not become us.”)

  5. I believe The Princess Bride to be one of the most quotable movies I know. I couldn’t just leave it by the wayside.

  6. IAWTC.
True love is the greatest thing in the world. Except for a nice MLT: a mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe. They’re so perky, I love that.

  7. I have my doubts as well… (referring to the quote)

  8. Todays quote reminds me of a joke:

    K: Mommy, mommy, I had a nightmare!
M: That’s horrible, honey! What happened?
    K: I was eating spaghetti!
M: But what’s so bad about that?
    K: I can’t find my shoelaces!

Okay, that might get snipped for bad taste but I’m renowned for my weird humor.

  9. I heard a similar joke quite a while ago.

Man: Last night I had a horrible dream. I dreamed I was eating a giant marshmallow.
    Friend: What’s wrong with that?
Man: When I woke up, my pillow was gone!

  10. Today’s quote is from a song I adore, “Shinjitsu no Uta” by Do As Infinity. I don’t remotely speak Japanese, but there are various translations of the quote, so I decided to keep it in kanji so as to not limit it to one translation. Three possible translations from which you can draw a general picture of the quote:

    “Knowing eternity, any darkness
    Or pain will eventually disappear
Stain me now, just like that
The castle in the sky I dreamed of long ago
    I’ll get there someday
With the song of truth as my guide”

“If eternity knows what manner of darkness
    And when pain will vanish,
Then that way, you shall taint me
I looked always to yesterday, to the castles in the sky
When will I be able to follow them?
This song of truth shall be my guide”

“If you know eternity, any darkness
and any pain will eventually fade.
    Dirty me like that, now.
    Some day we’ll arrive
at the castle in the sky I once saw.
    We’ll follow the True Song.”

  11. Today’s quote, from the ever plentiful xkcd, has been censored.
    I object.

  12. Well, it’ll be changing soon anyway.

  13. That’s not really the point though, I guess I was hoping to discuss the larger issue of censorship.

  14. I just want to keep PTR polite, ‘kay? It’s really not a big deal. There are plenty of places where you can go and swear if you want to.

  15. Today’s quote is interesting. Who said it?

  16. I’m not the one swearing, Randall Munroe was the one swearing. And you censored it. I feel that this misrepresents the monologue, and it should be presented in full. If you want polite, you should use polite quotes, ‘kay?

  17. Bookgirl_me- It was none other than Albert Einstein.

Vendaval- Oh, good heavens. Fine. You want the last part? “Fuck. That. Shit.” Happy?

  18. I never realized that he was so anti-patriotic. Strange…

  19. Well, Einstein was a German Jew who lived at the same time as Hitler, so he must not’ve been a huge fan of nationalism. At least he was smart enough to come to the U.S. before things got too bad.

  20. I think you missed my point, but whatevar.

  21. I don’t understand what your point is, no. What is your point, exactly? Would you rather I had chopped off the last part entirely? All I did was replace two vowels with hyphens. I could have censored it much more than that.

  22. Okay, that’s enough, you two. “A plague on both your houses”, if I may be so blunt.

Whomever can cite the quote first gets…a prize. I haven’t yet decided. :]

  23. Well, I know it’s from Romeo and Juliet, but I don’t know which character says it.

No, wait. It was… crap, what was his name? He’s saying it as he’s dying. Mercutio?

  24. “This is the end
    Beautiful friend
    This is the end
    My only friend, the end
It hurts to set you free
    But you’ll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die
    This is the end”

I don’t want to think about how this quote fits to the topics on the rant thread.

  25. I’m walking on sunshine… *sings along* I love that song. It cheers me up every time I hear it.

  26. For me, I listen to it when I’m in a good mood. If I’m in a bad mood, it may be one of the most aggravating songs in existence.

  27. It’s only irritating to me when I’m in an I-want-to-strangle-someone mood (i.e. angry). But then again, when I’m angry everything irritates me. Now I’m happy because I have an excuse to keep procrastinating.

  28. The quotes from yesterday and today were from “Swan Lake” by Blackalicious, which is an extremely underrated rap duo. The guy who does most of the rapping is Gift of Gab, and he’s amazing. A spectacular sample:

  29. What’s this one from? It’s…. odd, to say the least…

  30. The greatest cartoon to grace this earth in decades, better known as Futurama.

  31. Ah. I believe I’ve heard of it… *is rather ignorant of such things*

  32. Erm, the quote? *is cocking head to reread to make sure she has it right*

Er, oh, damn, no pun intended.

  33. *snickersnicker*

  34. Honest, RQ! No pun intended…..’twas truly accidental.

  35. Piggy, today’s quote is flamabulous! I love that song!

Hello darkness my old friend/ I’ve come to talk to you again/ because a vision softly creeping/ left its seeds while I was sleeping/ and the vision that was planted in my brain/ still remains/ within the sound of silence/

    I also like the S&G song that goes “I’d rather be a hammer than a nail/ Yes I would/ Yes I really would/ if I only could/…” too.

  36. The words of the prophets/ Are written on the subway walls……SFTDP. Just had to add that. I just love that song so much…………

  37. To hug the mountain,
    To envelop that mountain.

  38. Quote’s up early today, as I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get on the computer later.

Anyone wanna buy me a laptop?

  39. Sorry, Piggy. I didn’t even buy my own laptop–my dad got that for me for college.

  40. Hopefully I’ll at least get one for my sixteenth birthday next April, as that’s when my sister got her laptop, but I’d really like one sooner, as each and every evening when my dad comes home from work he eats dinner and then comes and does yet more work on the only computer in the house, usually till at least eleven at night. I’m thinking that, given our current financial situation, I may have to pay for part of the laptop. So that means I’ll probably be getting a job sometime soon. But I don’t mind that. And now I’m rambling. Ramble ramble ramble, ramble ramble ramble. Ramble? Ramble ramble ramble. Ramble!

  41. Ramble!

  42. Ramble?!

  43. Ramble.

  44. Dónde está la biblioteca? /
Me llamo T-Bone la araña discoteca.’ /
    ‘Discoteca, muñeca, la biblioteca /
Es en bigote grande, perro, manteca.’ /
    ‘Manteca, bigote, gigante, pequeño /
Cabeza es nieve, cerveza es bueno.’ /
‘Buenos días, me gustan papas frías, /
Bigote de la cabra es Cameron Diaz.’”

    Hmmmmm.

    Where is the library?/
My name is T-Bone the *blank* *blank*/
    *blank*, *blank*, the library/
it is a *blank* big, dog, *blank*./
    *blank*, *blank*, giant, smal/
Head is *blank*, *blank* is good./
Good day, I like cold potatoes,/
*blank* of the *blank* is Cameron Diaz.

Heheh, I know lots of Spanish……

  45. It was a little rap-type-thing from the end of the latest episode of Community. It’s basically nonsense, but here’s the translation:

    “‘Where is the library? /
My name is T-Bone the disco spider.’ /
    ‘Disco, doll, the library /
Is in big mustache, dog, lard.’ /
    ‘Lard, mustache, huge, small /
Head is ice cream, beer is good.’ /
‘Good day, I like cold potatoes, /
Mustache of the goat is Cameron Diaz.’”

  46. Um. That is very interesting. “Good day, I like cold potatoes” I am going to say that to my friends at ballet class today.

  47. Hee hee. I’m rather excited for tonight’s quote. It’s random, (arguably) funny, and will have been read before by many of you. But you won’t have actually read it.

  48. Is that supposed to make sense? And when’s it going up, unless I’m much mistaken, it’s still yesterday’s long song-y quote.

  49. It’s from Glee! Which I haven’t seen yet, but really, really want to.

  50. I haven’t put it up yet, Luna. Well, in a few short minutes I will, but at this time I have not.

No, Tesseract. It’s not from Glee. It’s by Journey, which has been around far longer than Glee and is no doubt better.

  51. It’s up now. =D

And it’s been read by me, and I would argue that I actually read it. After all I do read the recent comment bar to find posts I’ve not read since the last refresh. XD

  52. Not in this exact combination you haven’t.

  53. That could be….. =D

  54. Doubtless it is. And I knew that, surprisingly… but not until about half an hour ago. xD

  55. There might be a quote tomorrow, there might not be. We’ll see.

  56. Being sincere means that you mean what you are saying. So how in the multiverse can you be sincere if you don’t mean it?

  57. I dunno. Ask Truman.

  58. Note: tomorrow’s quote is going up VERY early, as I’m not sure when I will and will not be at home this evening. I’ll leave today’s up there as well.

  59. Uhmmmmmm. The quote? *questioning look*

  60. Yes? What about it?

  61. I dunno……

  62. “Sing us a song, you’re the piano man/ sing us a song tonight/ for we’re all in the mood for a melody/ you’ve got us feeling alright”

    That’s a good song.

  63. I like Billy Joel…

Slow down, you crazy child/ you’re so ambitious for a juvenile/but then if you’re so smart, then why are you still afraid, yeah

But you know that when the truth is told/ that you can get what you want, or you can just get old/ you’re gonna kick off before you even get halfway through, ooh/ why don’t you realize/ Vienna waits for you…

You’ve got your passion, you’ve got your pride/ but don’t you know that only fools are saitsfied/ dream on, but don’t imagine they’ll all come true, ooh / When will you realize, Vienna waits for you…

Okay, I know that isn’t the right order… but I’m pretty sure the lyrics are correct.

  64. Piggy, I’ve got to ask: Are you trying to drive me very slowly insane? It was not long ago at all that I mentioned my mind was inhabiting the depths of the sewer, and now you must go and throw a quote out there, that, well….Honestly, it’s blatantly daring my mind to go….there. You really aren’t helping with the cleansing of my poor, poor mind. Shame on you.

  65. Hey, you’re the one thinking naughty things. I am not at fault here.

  66. You are completely at fault. I don’t think it’s humanly possible to read that sentence and NOT think naughty things.

  67. Hush, y’all. For your information, this quote comes from an article which I found through Lady B (it’s a long story). It makes a bit more sense in context.

  68. Bloody hell, Piggy, I now have this picture in my mind of bats, well, y’know, performing fellatio, and that’s really a mental image I could do without. Bestiality is so not my thing, including watching animals “do it”.

And you claim you’re NOT trying to drive me slowly insane?

By the way…..I read your comment before I even saw the quote. Although why that makes nay difference, I don’t know.

  69. And I don’t even think I want to know what, exactly, the primatologist is doing in his “extensive research” with the bonobos……He, perhaps, is into the bestiality kind.

  70. Oh, god…..I just read the article (and was lmao the whole time), but then I just had a thought I don’t want to think about: Our house is infested with bats. And I’m never going to be able to look at one of them again without thinking about them doing, well, that in my walls. So now during the summer when they’re getting loose in the house, or when i hear them chittering in the walls…..Jesus.

Thanks, Piggy. Thanks so much. When you hear on the news that Michelle ***** of Alaska was sentenced to an insane asylum, you’ll know who’s to blame. You.

  71. :D

  72. Well, seriously! I have to live with those bats! And chase ‘em around with a butterfly net trying to catch ‘em to shove ‘em outside! *shudder* The images, Piggy, the images!

  73. And when I’m sitting at the computer and I hear them chittering in the walls……You just know what I”m going to be thinking they’re doing!

  74. Errrr. What is today’s quote from exactly?…

  75. It’s a sign in Engrish.

  76. Hehehe. I remember where that quote is from…. Armada, sparkling new!

  77. Haha, I remember that… MB2, sparkling new! And there was so much panic that studge was really replacing MB  Sorry, getting nostalgic.

  78. I know…..I can’t believe people actually though Studge was real. That was a brilliantly fun day, though. It was my first day back at school after spring break (despite being a Wednesday), as my original flight had been cancelled due to the volcano erupting……But Studge turned what would otherwise have been an incredibly stressful day into lots of fun.

  79. Excuse the language today.
